Course Overview

Dental implants are a common and desired treatment for patients in need to replace missing teeth or to restore edentulous arches. Scientific evidence has shown that accumulation of oral biofilm at the soft tissue – implant interface and the subsequent inflammatory response are crucial factors in the development of peri-mucositis and potentially peri-implantitis. It is widely reported in the literature that the progression of peri-implantitis is often faster than bone loss around natural teeth with periodontitis and frequently can result in implant failure. For all these reasons knowing how to differentiate between implant health and implant pathology and how to try to maintain long term implant health is extremely important for all the members of the dental team who will treat patients with dental implants.
