Inlays are composite fillings that are permanently cemented to the cusps (tops) of your teeth to repair fractures or fillings. Made using a super strong composite material, they often serve as alternatives to fillings when teeth are damaged or decayed by impact or trauma. Onlays are the same as inlays, only they are used to cover a larger area of the tooth surface.
Reasons for Inlays or Onlays:
- Broken, decayed or fractured teeth
- Cosmetic enhancement
- Fractured fillings
- Large fillings
What does getting an Inlay or Onlay involve?
When getting an inlay or onlay at Southwest Specialty Group, the first appointment will involve us taking a mold of the tooth, and then creating a temporary filling to protect your tooth until the inlay/onlay is ready. Once the inlay or onlay is ready, we will schedule a second appointment where it will be cemented into place and tested for fit, aesthetics and bite.
