Lecture presentation
Course Overview:
Smile aesthetics have been shown to play a major role in a person’s appearance, self-confidence and social life. After expanding on the critical elements of dento-facial aesthetics, this presentation will provide insight on the proper diagnosis of the underlying causes of recession, appropriate treatment planning and correct staging in the delivery of treatment. The anatomy and biology of the peri-implant soft tissue will be reviewed, as well as their differences with the periodontal tissues. This presentation will highlight surgical and restorative techniques to accomplish predictable outcomes in the aesthetic zone with implant therapy. Special emphasis will be placed on minimally-invasive treatment modalities to accomplish optimal peri-implant mucosa architecture. Techniques to transfer provisional emergence profile to the final restoration will be presented. Additionally, critical elements of restorative treatment and material choice will be discussed.
Course Objectives:
- Review the diagnosis and classification of peri-implant mucosal recession
- Understand the differences between periodontal and peri-implant tissues
- Review the effect of tooth extraction on the volumetric soft tissue changes
- Realize the need for pre-prosthetic soft tissue augmentation and the need for peri-implant soft tissue enhancement
- Review of current surgical concepts to correct soft tissue deficiencies
- Realize the importance of adequate peri-implant soft tissue on the maintenance of the aesthetic outcome
Course Goals:
After this presentation the attendees will be able to:
- Identify the different causative factors of peri-implant tissue recession
- Understand the need for pre-prosthetic soft tissue enhancement
- Identify the indication for soft tissue augmentation around dental implants
- Understand how to accurately transfer the soft tissue profile to the laboratory technician to facilitate fabrication of the final implant-supported restoration
- Choose the appropriate prosthesis design to prevent soft tissue complications
